Stephen Dixon published his first book, a collection of short stories, in 1976 when he was 40. He has published another 30 published since then, always using a manual typewriter. Considered a "writer's writer" who obsessively chronicled his own life in his many novels, he retired from Johns Hopkins where he has taught creative writing for many years. He lives in Towson with his disabled wife, Anne, who finally asked her husband to stop writing about his every reaction to her debilitating illness.
